Description
The self-titled debut album by the American gospel/soul combo Soul Liberation was released on Creative Arts in 1974. The album was recorded by Bob Blank at Delta Recording Studios in New York City with band member Paul Greenidge producing. Featuring covers of “Jesus Is The Way”, a song written by Hadley Hockensmith, and “Christians By Our Love”, a song written by Father Peter Scholtes.
Looking for soulful sounds but find Andrae Crouch a bit too smooth? Soul Liberation is pretty smooth too, but they can also pour on the organ and get down when they want to. «Who’s Your Friend» even has a touch of 70’s psychy funk which befits their large Afro hair-dos. Mostly mellow and polished but with nice soft and jazzy r&b framework. I liked the line about the “walkin’ talkin’ squawkin’ Jesus machine”. [Ken Scott, The Archivist]
