Confessions

Description

Confessions is an album by the American singer and songwriter Reba Rambo, released on Light Records in 1980. The album was recorded and mixed by Warren Peterson at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Dony McGuire producing. Rhythm tracks and strings arranged by McGuire and Lennart Sjöholm, respectively. All songs co-written by Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire.

‘Confessions’ is less a series of heart-baring, soul-searching revelatory material than a telling step in the developement of Reba’s career as blossoming songwriter-vocalist. Most of the compositions here are upbeat with dazzling arrangements that complement Reba’s versatility and dramatic abilities. All this points to the possibility that Reba is beginning to relax and pick up on the contemporary sounds for which her sylph-like soprano is so well-suited.

This is Reba’s first album since her move to Light and her first self-produced LP (together with her new husband and long-time co-songwriter Dony McGuire). Musically, the move appears to have been a good one: touches of contemporary vocal technique often employed by Streisand and Summer make Reba’s style attractive listening and playable for contemporary radio.

(Best cuts: «Struggle for Survival», «Because of Whose I Am», and «I Won’t Last A Day».) [CCM, January 1981]

The week of the Confessions re-issue, Reba was joined by Dusty Wells and Tim Dillinger to discuss the making of the album, the stories behind some of the songs and the many people involved in pulling this project together in 1980.
