Pathway Through the Wilderness

Description

Pathway Through the Wilderness is a solo album – part instrumental, part vocal album – by the American singer, songwriter, session keyboardist, and producer John Andrew Schreiner, released on Metro One Recordings in 1995, distributed by Diamante in the US.

Imagine taking scripture and having Pink Floyd set it to music, and you’ve got the flavors of this excellent project by Christian producer John Andrew Schreiner (Fernando Ortega, Crystal Lewis, et al.). Sometimes ambient, sometimes rocking, always melancholy and meditative, even in its most blazing moments, a unique and sophisticated balance that is rarely achieved in modern music, let alone Christian music.

This album is a journey though, from “the wilderness” of Christian experience (hence the heart-bearing desolation of the opening track) to the «City of God» (which is the name of the last, enraptured song). There are a few beautiful instrumental songs throughout, but most of these tracks are songs with vocals, mostly sung by Schreiner himself. There are also a few joyous “rockers” in the midst, although most of the album is slower and contemplative.
