Description
World Gone Mad is the seventh and final studio album by the American singer and songwriter Kenny Marks, released by Temple Productions in 1995, manufactured and distributed by Word Records & Music. The album was recorded and mixed by Caesar Kalinowski at The Sonic Temple in Elgin/Chicago, Illinois; with Kenny Marks and Caesar producing.
In the constantly changing landscape of Christian music, Kenny Marks is an institution. His albums usually drip with passion. You can also count on them to rock. ‘World Gone Mad’ delivers on both counts.
Seizing the day is the unifying theme here. Standout tunes range from the humorous «Before My Last Goodbye» to the moving «In My Mother’s Eyes». The title song, used by Josh McDowell on his “Right From Wrong” campaign, reminds us that God does set absolute standards for our behavior. The video to this song is included on the compact disc as a CD-ROM bonus.
Mark’s fictional couple, Jeannie and Johnny, returns for an acoustic remake of the classic «The Party’s Over». Personally, I prefer the old, full-tilt rocker, but this is an effective way to communicate the message of truth and consequences to a new generation of listeners. «Why» is a heart-wrenching cry to God over the loss of a child. To Mark’s credit, he doesn’t pretend to know the answers. There is no sugar-coating here, only faith in Christ.
Nothing fancy. The bare-boned, acoustic approach of Marks and co-producer, Caesar, brings Kenny’s rough (sometimes raw) vocals to the forefront of these sparse arrangements. Spiritual passion, in its truest form, is the byword for ‘World Gone Mad’. [David Bumgarner, CCM, December 1995]
