Description
Minstrel for the King is a solo album by the American singer, songwriter, engineer and producer Evan Williams of Harvest Flight fame, released on Destiny Records in 1978.
Who says the head honcho behind pioneering Jesus music band Harvest Flight can’t do a pop/jazz album if he wants to? Fans of his early group might shrug, but taken by itself Minstrel For The King is a successful slab of distinctively ‘70s pop – breezy, melodic, symphonic, with a hint of funk and disco. Some sisters on bgvs providing smooth oohs, ahhs, sha-lahs, and shab-a-dab-a-bops to add to the carefree mood. The jazz instrumental «Command Performance» kicks things off with sax, vibraphone, flute, strings, synths. «Puzzle» slinks along with some punchy wah-wah and disco stings. «Truth» from the Harvest Flight LP is done with a smidgen of jazz fusion. A good half the album’s pure adult contemporary, ballads and such, and there’s nothing really rockin’, but enough decent moments can be gleaned to make this worthy of acquisition.
