Description
Blueprint – an eight-track mini-album – is the third album by the American singer and songwriter Ginny Owens, released on Rocketown Records in November 2002. Featuring seven previously released songs re-recorded in an acoustic setting, as well as one new song. The album was produced by Margaret Becker.
This superb mini-album takes eight Ginny tracks (seven previously released, one new song «Let Them Hear»), re-records them in ‘unplugged’ style and adds a video (“With Me”) for good measure. Following two well-received full-length CDs, ‘Without Condition‘ and ‘Something More‘ for Michael W. Smith‘s Rocketown Records, cynics could well ask, “where’s album three?” The quality of this stopgap offering, however, eradicates such thoughts instantly. Having watched the CD-ROM video (a track from ‘Something More’), I feel that Ginny’s gentle songs are better served by the delicate acoustic arrangements of ‘Blueprint’, exploring jazzy, late night, Norah Jones territory, than the more mainstream pop approach of her earlier work. Certainly Ginny’s restrained vocals are given more room in the mix to impress, and the whole thing is built around her accomplished piano work. Touches of cello from Matt Slocum, a few well-placed Celtic flourishes and Keith Getty’s string arrangements on three tracks all add to the experience. Top marks to Margaret Becker in the producer’s chair. This is Ginny, comparatively still a young artist, stepping out and doing something different, “something more.” Very impressive.
