Friends for a Lifetime

Description

Friends for a Lifetime is a gospel album by the American singer and songwriter Claire Lynch, released on Brentwood Bluegrass ‎in 1993, an imprint of Brentwood Music. The album was produced, arranged, recorded, and mixed by Bil VornDick.

Highly regarded in Nashville for her work on albums with Dolly Parton, Kathy Mattea, Emmylou Harris and many others, Lynch first made her reputation in bluegrass circles as the lead voice in the Front Porch String Band, which included husband Larry on mandolin. After a six-year hiatus to begin raising two kids, Lynch has returned to the acoustic circuit with her Brentwood debut. She could hardly have picked a finer batch of accompanists than the ones which join her on ‘Friends’: Alan O’Bryant & Stuart Duncan (of the Nashville Bluegrass Band), Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas – all International Bluegrass Music Association award winners – are but a few of the heavyweights backing Lynch. Much credit also goes to noted producer Bil VornDick, whose keen ear for acoustic arrangements helps keep the focus on Lynch’s crystalline voice. Claire also expands the horizons of gospel bluegrass, not only by writing more introspective songs than one would normally hear, but also by adding clever harmonic twists and borrowing liberally from the country and gospel quartet genres. Although her voice owes much to the influence of Parton and Alison Krauss, Lynch stakes out her own turf on this terrific album. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, September 1993]
