Description
The Lord Reigns is an album by the American gospel and soul singer Morris Chapman (1938 – May 2, 2020), released on Myrrh Records in 1980, a division of Word. The album was recorded by Gene Rice and Gary S. Paxton at The Wax Works Studio Corporation in Nashville, Tennessee; with Paxton producing, assisted by Wynn Dixie. Arranged by Paxton. All songs written or co-written by Morris Chapman except track A5 written by Gary Massanari.
Featuring music by The Pax Superpickers with guest soloist and organist Novella Williams. Background vocals provided by The Novella Williams Singers.
Contemporary black gospel appropriate for church and commercial use but still well within the tradition of its genre, especially in the way of piano-percussion arrangements and backup vocals. Not quite all traditional in style, the material displays no rock influence and lacks the hard, get-down edge to stress the sermonette base of the gospel line. Vocalists are excellent and production retains strong musical presence. [CCM (What’s New), January 1981]
