Description
Man of Sorrows is an album by the American psychedelic folk/rock combo Fellowship Christian Church, independently released in 1975. The album was recorded by Don Schepmann and Shad O’Shea at Counterpoint Creative Studios in Cincinnati, Ohio; with Larry Wallbrech of Millennium fame producing. Mixed by Wallbrech.
From the name you’d guess maybe a church choir or something. Well it isn’t. It’s ten Cincinnati cutting-edgers whose exceptional custom recording artfully blends elements of progressive acoustic and rural rock, subtly enveloping them in a dreamy folk/psych atmosphere. Devout songwriting and heartfelt presentation really hits home on pieces like the title track. Nice combination of acoustic and electric guitars, plus some piano. Lead vocals by Jim Bankowski whose fragile delivery bears some resemblance to Jimmy Hotz. A female singer steps in for the moody flute-accompanied «Rose Of Sharon». Percussion, production and mix-down by Larry Wallbrech who was also the drummer for Millennium with Bob and Jayne Farrell. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
