Description
The self-titled debut album by the American singer and songwriter Scott Wesley Brown (“with The Sons of Thunder and Bill Worthy”) was released on Georgetown Record Corporation in 1973. The album was recorded and mixed by Bill McElroy at Bias Recording Co. in Falls Church, Virginia; with Dennis Dean Allward and Leonard R. Brown producing. All songs written by Scott Wesley Brown except “Good News” co-written with Bill Worthy, and “Sonshine”, which was rearranged from the original, “You Are My Sunshine”.
Featuring Scott Wesley Brown on lead vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica, backed by Ed Weaver on keyboards, Bill Worthy on acoustic guitar and vocals, Dorian Lester on lead guitar, Tom Willett on bass, and Bob Egan on drums and percussion (the latter three of Sons of Thunder, according to the album credits, though actually it was Weaver and Willett that were members of the band), with Ken McKim sitting in on steel guitar. Strings provided by Myron Birnbaum.
Scott Wesley Brown joined his first rock band, The Hounds Of Baskerville, in 1967. They got to open for bands like The Doors, The Turtles and The Yardbirds. Their roadie and occasional drummer John Hartman went on to form The Doobie Brothers, while Scott took a different path!
Believe it or not this popular CCM/pop artist actually started on a rather rugged note (and with hair length to match!) This custom debut starts off with a solid rocker (that’s right, rock) «Sing, Singing His Song» followed by a series of fine acoustic tunes with a rural folkiness to them – a musical mix and style that elicits comparisons to the early solo LPs of Mike Johnson. Members of Sons Of Thunder supply bass, drums and lead guitar while Brown focuses on acoustic guitar and harmonica. A solid entry in the male solo realms. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
