Spring Rain

Description

Spring Rain is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter Nori Kelley, independently released on Christian Brothers in 1980.

The quiet acoustic/electric soft rock setting of this talented Alabama gentleman’s custom LP combined with the meek voice immediately brought to mind Dave Mattson’s Lead Me Home. While several musicians assist here, Kelley himself handles numerous instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, bass, piano, flute, lap steel, auto-harp, moog, synth and percussion. Several nice tracks, one example being the soft flowing jazz of «The Thief» with good guitar and keyboard soloing. Other notable songs include «Never Ending Stream», «The Rain Song», «Come Follow Me» and «All You Need». Excellent blend of acoustic and electric guitars throughout. Also two instrumental tracks highlighting classical guitar («Cup Of Love», «Be Still And Know»). Speaking of those guitar leads, I was more than once reminded of Phil Keaggy. A second press from 1981 has a different cover. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
