Wings of an Eagle

Description

Wings of an Eagle is the debut album by the American husband-and-wife duo Mike and Kathie Deasy (guitarist Mike Deasy of of Wrecking Crew fame), released on Sparrow Records in 1976. The album was produced and recorded by Buck Herring at Quad Teck in Los Angeles, at Sunwest Studios in Hollywood, and at Frog Shoes in Burbank, California. Strings arranged by Michael Omartian (who also played synthesizer on the album). Featuring backing vocals by 2nd Chapter of Acts. All songs written by Mike Deasy except track A1 co-written with wife Kathie.

The album track “Silver And Run” was as well featured on Sparrow Spotlight Sampler, a multi-artist compilation released by Sparrow Records in 1978.

Guitarist Mike Deasy was a member of the “Wrecking Crew”, a loose-knit circle of Los Angeles’ top studio session musicians whose services were constantly in demand during their heyday in the 1960s and early 1970s.

The Sparrow label seems a natural plug-in for the easy-going country-edged folk and rock sounds of Mike and Kathie Deasy. Wings Of An Eagle features eleven of Mike’s songs, many of which have a slow-to-mid-tempo lazy stroll («Sleeping Lady», «Wolf», «Doctor, Doctor», «Humpty Dumpty», «Shark», «Get Glad», the title track), sometimes lightly dabbed with a touch of roots rock, blues or funk. On the heavier end is the driving guitar/organ/synth rocker «Silver And Run». Kathie’s vocals are spotlighted on the ballads «Puppets» and «Lazarus». Assistance from Michael Omartian (keyboards) and 2nd Chapter Of Acts (background vocals). String orchestrated to a degree, as were most of the early Sparrow releases.
