The Lives We Share

Description

The Lives We Share is the third album by the American folk trio Dust & Ashes, released on Avant Garde Records in 1972. The abum was recorded by Rick Horton, Dave McKinely, and Rex Collier at Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Clay Pitts producing. Featuring an ace rhythms section consisting of John Darnall and Kenny Malone on bass and drums respectively.

Continues in the folk and country vein of A Different Shade Of Blue with equally good results. All self-composed songs this time (twelve of them), including «The Windchimes», «Someone’s Lockin’ The Doors», «The Ballad Of Gallopin’ Gertie», «That’s Not Much To Write A Song About», «The Lord’s Vineyard», the fiddle-accompanied «Ballad Of A Recluse» and «Our Church Has Got Religion Again». Some of these songs bear resemblance to Dogwood. Also a shot or two of old Kingston Trio. Pleasant pedal steel melody gracing the title track (shades of CSNY’s «Teach Your Children»). Charlie Daniels would be proud of the novelty «Talkin’ Jesus Freak Blues» spoken over a backdrop of dobro twang. Tom Page would revive the group name in 1983 for the album Lend Me A Sunrise.
