Description
Liturgy of Time, sub-titled Original Interpretations of Ageless Hymns, is a multi-artist compilation featuring various British artists, released on Word Records in 1998. The album was recorded and mixed at The Music Shed in Derbyshire, England; with Phil Baggaley and Neil Costello producing.
An album made by Methodist Homes For The Aged who got their residents to name their favourite hymns (yep, «Abide With Me», «How Great Thou Art», «When I Survey», etc, etc) and then got a bevy of UK Christian artists, produced by Neil Costello and Phil Baggaley, to breathe new creative life into the most familiar of religious material. The project works surprisingly well with Mal Pope’s soulful rendition of «Amazing Grace», Martyn Joseph bringing out all the poignancy of «O Love That Will Not Let Me Go», Adrian Snell elegantly performing «Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind» with a couple of sterling instrumental hymns from David Fitzgerald. This recording has been made by artists with a passion for investing their gifts in places that can make a difference in society, in this instance to the lives of those who face challenges as they get older. It has been recorded in conjunction with Methodist Homes for the Aged, a major national charity specialising in care for older people, whatever their personal beliefs. Each of the hymns included are the chosen favourites of residents, tenants, staff, volunteers and members of the Live At Home initiative. Proceeds from the sale of the recording will benefit the important work of caring for the vulnerable in our communities.
