A Song Shall Rise

Description

A Song Shall Rise is the fourth solo album by the American singer and songwriter Terry Talbot of Mason Proffit and the Talbot Brothers fame, released on Birdwing Records in 1982, a division of Sparrow Records. The album was recorded and mixed by Joe Bellamy with Bellamy and Terry Talbot producing. Orchestrated and conducted by Phil Perkins. Featuring Jamie Owens-Collins and John Michael Talbot. All songs written by Terry Talbot except “May The Lord Be With You” co-written with brother John Michael and “Holy Is Thy Name” written by John Michael.

It appears that Terry Talbot has decided to follow in his brother‘s footsteps, abandoning (at least temporarily) countried rock for worship oriented material. ‘A Song Shall Rise’, released on Sparrow’s “praise and worship” label, Birdwing, features a mellowed-out Terry singing his own compositions. (John Michael Talbot’s «Holy Is Thy Name», which also appears on his recently released ‘For the Bride‘, is the only song on this album that Terry didn’t write.)

Terry is featured playing acoustic guitar on each of these cuts, accompanied in most cases only by Herb Melton’s bass and the vocals of John Michael Talbot and Jamie Owens-Collins. Needless to say, the vocal combination is outstanding. One cut is highlighted with orchestrations by Phil Perkins. «See the Vision» and «Lamplighter» have appeared on previous Terry Talbot albums, but these new, mellower versions display the tunes in a totally different light.

(Best cuts: «Abba Father», «Lamplighter», «Holy Is Thy Name») [John W. Styll, CCM (What’s New), June 1981]
