Content in You is the fourth album by the American singer and songwriter Marj Snyder, released on Discovery Records in 1974. The album was engineered by Leroy Carroll at Studio West in San Diego, California; with Marj Snyder producing. Featuring backing from the country group Brush Arbor, “the 1973 Academy of Country Music award winner.”
Content In You includes soft subtle string arrangements, along side instrumental backing from the country group Brush Arbor – a welcome transition even if it does skip from folk to country to easy listening. Songs like «I’m In A Well», «Leaning On The Everlasting Arms» and «Psalm 130» reveal a deeper more mature vocal style from Marj, one that’s acquired a pleasant soulful hue over time Comparisons to Pam Mark and Janice Ian would not be out of line. She’s been putting out records for a long time, and each one is better than the last. On this one, backed up by Brush Arbor, she’s superb.
A good word for “Content” is mellow. She comes across as being so content in Jesus that she’s about to fall asleep. You know, cozy in the Spirit. There is no hurry here, just something so soothing.
There isn’t anything on this album that isn’t well done. The vocals, the backups, production, and arrangements are all cohesive in presenting the mood we’ve been dwelling on.
