Description
Clear Vision is the third album by the British singer and songwriter Kevin Gould, released in the UK on Grapevine in 1978, a Pilgrim Records subsidiary. The album was recorded by Colin Owen at The Old Smithy Recording Studio in Worcestershire, England; with John Pac of Parchment fame producing. String and brass arrangements by Dave Anfield.
Featuring Kevin Gould on lead vocals and acoustic guitar backed by a session band consisting of Alistair Stewart of Stewart and Kyle fame on keyboards, Mo Witham on lead and acoustic guitars, as well as banjo and dobro, and a rhythm section consisting of Spud Spurling on bass and Peter Thompson on drums, with Hugh Thomas sitting in on saxophone. Backing vocals provided by Parchment.
Clear Vision continues with another ccm-ish mix of light rock, country and ballads. It’s definitely his mellowest outing, including lots of slow string-accompanied songs, a couple of which are softened down further with saxophone («I’m Going Home» and «You Are Everything»). The mood picks up a bit for country ditties like «I’ve Got A Song» and «The Tongue», the latter with readily detectable rooster crows. «A Father’s Love» rocks lightly with brass backing up its island melody. Parchment appears on backing vocals. Produced by John Pac. Released only in the UK. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
