Description
One Heart at a Time is the sixth studio album by the American singer and songwriter Don Francisco, released on Myrrh Records in 1985, a division of Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Joe Bellamy at Peace in the Valley Recording in Arleta, California; with Al Perkins producing. All songs written or co-written by Don Francisco and Gary Dunham.
Saying anything unkind about Don Francisco puts a reviewer on the same level as the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The man has one of the most profound personal ministries in all of Christian music and writes some of the most arresting, thought-provoking lyrics in the genre.
But – oh! – that music. As in the past, ‘One Heart at a Time’ is dominated by a late folkie musical mentality, with songs sung in a quavering voice featuring the same progression over and over again. The exceptions are a goofy rock ‘n’ roll parody («So Satisfied»), a tortured urban blues rip-off («It Ain’t No Sin»), and a pretty, catchy, modern pop tune («One Heart at a Time»). Everything else is for dyed-in-the-wool Don Francisco fans only. [Bob Darden, CCM, July 1985]
