Description
The second self-titled and third album overall by the American country-rock combo Good Seed was released on Village Records in 1976. The album was recorded by Mark Hood and Kirk Butler at Gilfoy Sound Studios in Bloomington, Indiana; with Mike Griffin, Hood, and Butler producing. Mixed by Hood.
Good Seed features Rich Gootee on acoustic guitar and vocals, Greg Anderson on piano, mellotron, and vocals, Chris Browning on electric guitar and vocals, Billy Warren on bass and vocals, and Doug Adams on drums. The album also features guest musicians like Gary Pugh on pedal steel guitar, John Cascella on mellotron, Craig Palmer on alto saxophone and clarinet, and Skip Mesquite of Tower of Power fame on tenor saxophone and organ.
The Christian angle is toned down on this secular release, put out on an independent Indianapolis label. Same guys, but with a more polished commercial rock sound. The ballads can get pretty doctored over with synths and stuff, but rockers like «West Bound, Heaven Bound» and the rural-kickin’ «Happy Times» crank pretty solid. A few songs where you can’t tell if the ‘you” refers to God or their girlfriends. Otherwise, it’s harmless things like «Cool Breezes», «Billy Do-Wah», «I Want To Be Good At Loving You», «High Horse» and «Oh Sweet Pretender». [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
