Soldier of the Cross is a gospel album by the American country and bluegrass singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Ricky Skaggs (credited Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder), released on Skaggs Family Records in October 1999, distributed by Distribution North America. The album was recorded by Alan Schulman and Brent King at MCA Recording Studios in North Hollywood, California, and at Quad Studios in Nashville and Skaggs Place Studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee; with Ricky Skaggs producing. Mixed by Schulman and King at Quad Studios and Skaggs Place Studios.

This special album won both a Dove Award and a Grammy Award – but more importantly, is a heartfelt expression of Ricky Skaggs’ faith and commitment. From the opening call to worship to the reverent acapella closing hymn, this album reverberates with the gospel message. «The Darkest Hour» is a special treat, along with the classic «Gone Home», the old Bill Carlisle tune made famous by Flatt & Scruggs in the 1950’s.
