Description

“Cornerstone” – b/w “River” – is a two-sided 7-inch vinyl single by the American singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Leon Patillo, released on Myrrh Records in 1982, a division of Word (catalogue number M-262-DJ). Both tracks were taken from Patillo’s full-length album I’ll Never Stop Lovin’ You, released on Myrrh Records the same year (though track B is a shorter edit of the original album track), recorded and mixed by Skip Konte at Front Page Studio in Costa Mesa, California; with Leon Patillo and Konte producing. The track on the A-side was written by Leon Patillo, with the track on the flip-side co-written with Carlos Santana.

The album track “Cornerstone” was included by CCM Magazine among the Top Five Songs of 1982.

In this episode, Machaira welcomes former Santana lead singer and thee-time Grammy Award Nominee Leon Patillo to perform Leon’s song “Dance Children Dance” and Machaira’s version of “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Machaira & Phil Barbaccia. For the interview portions of the show, Leon connects with us via a Zoom call, and tells his story from the early days to Santana [Leon also talks about the tune “River”] and forward to his current ministry works in Las Vegas. With Leon’s lively storytelling, and the visual aspect of pictures and video, it’s a fascinating “mini-documentary,” enjoyable for his fans as well as those just getting to know Leon.
