Live! is a cassette-only live album by the Swedish melodic metal band Retrace, independently released in 1989. The album was recorded June 9, 1989 in Habo, Sweden. Produced by Metal Cross Productions, Jönköping, Sweden.
Retrace features Samuel Waermö on lead vocals and guitar; Anders Carlsson on keyboards and vocals, Thomas Olofsson om bass and vocals, and Leif Hedberg on drums.
Retrace is one of a handful of Swedish bands that seemed to stay mostly in the underground, but you hear more well-known bands talking about. This was their second release, after a 1986 demo. Only two songs from that demo («Never Understand Your Love» and «Hold on Tight») are captured here. The music is melodic heavy metal, which was apparently very popular in Sweden in the 80s – keyboards, big vocals, and slight neoclassical touches. The vocals sounds closer to Bruce Dickenson in style, though – which makes for a unique combination that works. Also in 1989, the band released a single with studio versions of two songs here – «Love Will Rise» and «You by My Side». But I don’t think the band or members did anything after that.
