Fat and Frantic – Waxing a Hottie

Description

Waxing a Hottie is the debut album by the British folk-rock combo Fat and Frantic, released on ICY Records (I’ll Call You Records) in 1986. The album was recorded by Mags Parry (of Sea Stone, Fresh Claim, and Intransit fame) at Scarf Studios in London, England. Mixed by Jules Bowen.

Fat and Frantic features Silas Crawley on washboard and vocals; Jim Harris on trumpet, washboard, and vocals; Jon Soper on guitar and vocals; and John Lodge-Patch on bass, etc.

This is the debut demo from Fat and Frantic, the quirky and off-beat band from London. Their music is a bit hard to describe as they mix several style – folky, funny, random horns, rock, you name it. They call their music piffle – a mix of punk and skiffle. That description works the best. Lots of humorous lyrics as well as though provoking lyrics. «The Senator’s Daughter» was later re-recorded in a different version for Quirk in 1990. «Brian», «Hey Psst», «The Bald Man’s Revenge», and «Billy and Jacky» were recorded live on their 1988 tape Live at the Wonky Donkey Bar and Grill. «Brian» was also recorded live for Sing the Very Best of Wendy Craig in 1991. After this, they released Aggressive Sunbathing in 1987. [Christian Tape Underground, May 26, 2025]
