Description
Digital Priests is the debut album by the American industrial band Donderfliegen (Brent Stackhouse and Wally Shaw), independently released on СЛАВА Records in 1991. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Donderfliegen at <3 Studio in Austin, Texas. The band released their first official studio album Fear of God on Blonde Vinyl Records in late 1991, this time under a new band name, Deitiphobia. The entire album was re-recorded and remixed in 1992, and released as Digital Priests – the Remixes.
Trivia: Deitiphobia is considered to be one of the first Christian Industrial bands to be released in the Christian market. Their sound has a heavy techno/dance feel to it on the Blonde Vinyl albums, even though guitars were added on later releases. Deitiphobia is also the center of the Slava universe. Slava music was originally a mail order distributor and demo production house that quickly became a sub-label of Blonde Vinyl.
So as most people know, this is the band that changed names to Deitiphobia and signed with Blonde Vinyl records. This tape was also remixed and updated for their second Blonde Vinyl release. And then after all of that, this tape was released by M8 Records in its “original form” with a bonus track. I put that in quotes because the CD re-issue has the songs in a different order, and some songs are different. «Have Mercy» and «…and there were mystic voices» are both at least 10 seconds shorter on the CD, while «Attack the City Walls» is nearly a minute shorter on the CD. They just knocked most of the intro off for the CD it seems. That is why I always like to listen to tapes even when I have the later CD re-issue. You never know what they changed. Plus, these tapes are so rare, I had to give it a listen as it is just one awesome industrial tape as well. Getting to hear it in its original tape form is just cool. Unfortunately this tape didn’t even have the J-card with it. Hopefully I can get my hands on a full quality scan of the J-card someday. There are some decent pics on discogs for now.
