Description
The World Won’t Fit in My Skull is a full-length album by the American alternative rock band Blue Trapeze, independently released on Fullspeak Records in 1990. It was the final effort by the band, released on cassette only. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by the band at The Sanctuary, July-October 1990.
Featuring Dan Koenig on vocals and guitar; Vince Rinner on guitar, keyboards, and vocals; Kurt Darrow on bass, keyboards, and vocals; and Lisa Kline-Koenig on drums, keyboards, and vocals.
Blue Trapeze was a fixture of the Christian tape underground, but their first few releases were vinyl only, so they haven’t been on this blog as much. Maybe I should start a blog for things like underground vinyl, CDs, videos, etc.? Anyways, this tape was four years after their last tape Mask and Marquee (1986). «Midnight Sun» was re-recorded from their last tape. This is also their first full length since their debut album Who Were You Then? in 1984. Lead singer and guitarist Dan Koenig was a columnist for ACM Journal, as well as writing article for other magazines as well. This tape is a great example of late 80s/early 90s alternative rock. It is more influenced by mid-80s alternative than most other bands at this time. Apparently, they were going to record an album for Blonde Vinyl Records, but got bumped by Dance House Children because Michael Knott wanted a little more diversity in sound on his new label. You might remember «In the Garden» being on the ACM Compilation # 1 in 1990, which was basically a compilation of the bands Knott was considering signing to Blonde Vinyl. Too bad Knott didn’t decide to make room for both bands. This was their last album on most discographies, but at one time I found an entire two discs of a compilation called Stillborn Dream (The Blue Trapeze Story) on mp3 from 2001. Most of the songs from this tape are on there (some twice) except for «Will the Wind?» and «Pretty Worlds». There are 23 unreleased songs in that collection, but I can’t find any information about the specifics of those songs anywhere online. Thankfully the collection has been uploaded to various digital platforms such as YouTube and Amazon, so you can find it there. That might mean that this album is coming to those soon as well, so I will hopefully switch the videos below to official versions soon. [Christian Tape Underground, June 24, 2026]

“In Your Garden” is a track from Blue Trapeze’s final album, The World Won’t Fit In My Skull. It was also included as track 2 on the multi-artist compilation ACM Journal: 1st Anniversary Compilation released in 1990.
