Play Dead Live

Description

Play Dead Live is a live album by the American indie rock band MuteMath, independently released on their own label Wojtek Records in December 2022 (and re-issued on physical format in May the following year as a Limited Edition 12-inch vinyl LP). The album was recorded live in Chicago on October 31, 2017, the band’s last official show on their final US tour. The album was produced by lead singer Paul Meany.

Album Liner Notes

MuteMath went on its last tour in the fall of 2017 and we’d play our last official show on October 31, 2017 at the Chicago House of Blues. This album is dedicated to every fan that’s ever attended a show, but more specifically, this tour that would mark the end of an era. It’s hard for me to adequately express the gratitude I’ve come to feel thinking back to this time and every chance you gave me to live out a childhood dream. When I started making music and fantasized about a mass of folks who might like it too, it is mind blowing when it all starts to come together. One day there are actual live strangers who are showing up to see you play these songs you made in some delusional creative state. You then look at these strangers and quickly realize that even without a formal meeting or any exchange of conversation, we’re suddenly a family. Our blood connection will always be the songs and shows that brought us together in a way that none of us might’ve really been prepared for but man, it as great to be in the moment it all happened. I love you all immeasurably and thank you eternally for making this experience as much yours as it was ours.
