Description
Lease of Life is the third album by the British folk-rock group Water Into Wine Band, self-released in the UK in December 2017. The album was recorded by Michael J Brown live in band member Ray Wright’s kitchen and later mastered by Dave Cooke of Dave & Judy fame. Featuring nine tracks written by Ray Wright and arranged by the band, as well as the traditional tune “Waly Waly” arranged by Bill Thorp.
Water Into Wine Band features William Thorp (violin and viola), Ray Wright (acoustic guitar), Pete McMunn (acoustic guitar), and Trevor Sandford (bass). (Alison McMunn is as well sitting in on piano on “Waly Waly”.)
This is our first ‘studio’ recording since 1976, a collection of tunes which fell out of the heavens in an unanticipated outbreak of creativity. We played ‘live’, tracks 1-9 in Ray’s kitchen and track 10 (“Waly Waly”) in Bill’s front room. These are the best takes with some corrections and overdubs.

Formed in 1972 from contrasting musical heritages and common Christian roots, they produced a unique classical folk rock fusion seeking a creativity which reflected a creator in stories and wordless soundscapes. They produced 3 LPs in 1974-76, and now after a mere 40 year gap, a collection of entirely new material, the final work of the original cast of 1972, and a tribute to their lost member.
