Description

Virtuosity! is an album by the American contemporary R&B group Virtue, released on Verity Records in September 2001, manufactured in the US by Zomba Recording Corporation. The album was recorded at Crystal Clear Studios in Sacramento and Golden Track Studios in San Diego, California; and also at Bonded Music in Charlotte, North Carolina. Produced by Derek “DOA” Allen (tracks: 2-4, 8, 13-14), Kevin Bond (track 5), Sean “Sepp” Hall (tracks: 9-10), Mark and Joey Kibble (tracks: 1, 6-7), and T.Boy (tracks: 11-12).

Virtue’s third album bears more than a striking resemblance to Destiny’s Child. The album opens with a heart rending acapella introduction reminiscent of early Take That, proving that these girls can sing! The rest of the album is an upbeat funky, slick production. Non-ambiguous lyrics are used, it is clear that this album is in praise of the Creator. A Latin influence can be heard on «Something About The Way», and the lush string arrangements and classical treatment of «Till You Believe» takes you into a more meditative mood. You soon get stomping again with «Uncle Freddie’s Remix». I was disappointed with the arrangement of «Great Is Thy Faithfulness». Their exquisite vocals could have given the song the more measured attention it deserves. Nonetheless a hot listen. [Pauline Muir, Cross Rhythms, November 2001]
