Description
Come Now is the Time, sub-titled Live from London, is a multi-artist compilation by artists connected to Vineyard UK, released on Vineyard Music in 1998. This album is considered to be among the key albums that changed the face of modern praise and worship music worldwide. It was followed by another live compilation the next year, entitled Hungry.
This album, produced by Brian Doerkson, stands above the usual offerings put out by Vineyard Music. It is unique in several ways: for one, it is the first Vineyard album produced in the UK and contains songs written by various worship leaders within the Vineyard movement in the UK. (Ironically, Doerkson himself is not from the UK but has moved to London from Canada.) The songs reflect a variety of musical styles ranging from an upbeat pop/Matt Redman style («Beautiful God») to a folk/Celtic influence («A Place In The Hills»). Although it was recorded live in London, the overall effect of the album is not that of a live worship gathering, which considering the diversity of the songs, I think is a wise move. Musically, this album is tight; Doerkson has pulled an excellent mix of musicians from different churches for this project which should prove to be a landmark album in putting British Vineyard music on the map.
