The movie, Fireproof starring Kirk Cameron, wasn’t supposed to be a hit. Well, toss that idea out the window, because the story of a fireman whose marriage is failing, hit home to many movie fans. The fireman is persuaded, with his wife, to put their differences aside for 40 days and then see where the marriage stands. Good advice for any one and there is an inspirational message in that, also.

Leeland offers «Brighter Days», Third Day has «This Is Who I Am», while Casting Crowns does «Slow Fade». John Waller sings «While I’m Waiting», Grey Holiday has «You Belong To Me» and Warren Barfield offers «Love Is Not A Fight». Of all the vocals, Third Day’s «This Is Who I Am» makes a definite impression as does John Waller’s «While I’m Waiting» with a background accompaniment similar to “If You Want Me.”

The main theme of Fireproof isn’t rousing, instead it begins with solo piano against a gentle orchestration including strings. It is thoughtful, almost tender in quality and seems to define the married couple as they were. When the firemen go into action with trucks and equipment, percussion plays a major role in momentum, with violins and horns for definition, as «On the Tracks» and «House Fire». On the other hand, when the young couple are trying to change attitude, the piano is used as the instrument of theme, («The Love Dare» and «The Apology».)

Mark Willard’s soundtrack blends instrumental music with a tinge of Hans Zimmer’s Backdraft in it, and contemporary Christian recording artists such as Third Day and Casting Crowns. In the film, the music lets the audience know an emotion the actors are feeling, and as such, there is an intensity here so that the soundtrack, without vocals, could even stand alone as an orchestral suite.
