Never Be the Same is an album by the American pop group Truth, released on Pamplin Music in 1998, manufactured and distributed by Pamplin Music Distribution. The album was produced by Don Koch, John Elefante, and Dino Elefante.
What ain’t broke doesn’t need fixing. So it appears with Truth, still going after 27 years with probably as many changes in personnel. The coed, vocal sextet’s basic adult contemporary/pop formula has not undergone an overhaul on Never Be the Same, but as with any musical vehicle over a quarter-century old, a tune up now and again has kept Truth road worthy.
The members of today’s Truth are certainly influenced by different sounds than those shown in the incarnations of the group that included Dick & Mel Tunney and members of 4HIM and Avalon. Slightly more aggressive drum tracks, updated synthesizer tones, even the increased nuance of wah-wah pedal electric guitar are at the fore now.
Just as the group’s music bears immediate familiarity, so does Truth’s song selection reassure a sizable church audience. In this day when music from the church is becoming less afraid to invoke artful allusions and expressions of doubt, the members of Truth are equally bold in sharing simple truth. Ballads like «Glory of the Blood» and «Love Takes It All» have the high-concept comfort of a Sandi Patty or Larnelle Harris. Even when answers aren’t so readily apparent, the shiny production and lyrical inference in «Through the Noise» and «Let Go» are like sanctified, happy-face stickers.
