I Know You Think You Know

Description

I Know You Think You Know is the sophomore album by the American singer, songwriter, and producer Tim Miner, released on Sparrow Records in 1988. The album was recorded at KnightLight Studios in Dallas, Texas; with additional recording done at Eagle Mountain Studios in Newmark, Texas; at Selah Studios in Detroit, Michigan, and at various studios in California – “Rhett’s Place” Studio in Studio City, Bossa Nova Hotel in San Fernando, Mighty White Studios in Toluca Lake, Eat Yourself Into A Coma Studio in North Hollywood, and at Motown Hitsville USA in Hollywood. Engineered by Tim Miner, Brian Tankersley, Don Wallace, Kelly Hemphill, Loyd Harris, Randy Adams, Rhett Lawrence, and Ron Lagerloff, and mixed by Miner, Wallace, Harris, and Adams. Produced by Tim Miner with James Everette, Don Wallace, and Brian Tankersley co-producing.

Guest musicians include D-Boy Rodriguez (rapping on “Hey You!”), David Pack of Ambrosia fame (backing vocals on “Did I Forget To Say”), Phil Keaggy (guitar solo on “Too Casual”), and Tommy Sims (bass solo on “Smarter Than Crack”).

Andrae Crouch commented that nowadays “the black artist gets airplay because he sounds like the white artist who sounds black.” Does this mean Tim Miner’s new album should do Big Radio because he’s a white artist who sounds like a black artist who sounds like a white who sounds black? Is this logical or feedback?

Happily, Miner’s music cuts across the black/white issue and majors in strong ministry-oriented songs set to an urban contemporary dance groove. A man whose depth of talent is perhaps exceeded only by the length of his hair, Miner proves adept at a variety of black contemporary music styles, from rap to hybrid hard rock (a la Michael Jackson) to sensitive, soulful ballads like «Cover Me» and «Did I Forget to Say». The songs touch on a wide range of topics too, from simple expressions of God’s faithfulness to frank warnings against sexual sin.

Those who may think they know Tim Miner from his previous recordings should give this one a listen. ‘I Know You Think You Know’ showcases Miner at his best. [Mark Eischer, CCM, August 1988]
