The Tribe – Raise Your Game

Description

Raise Your Game is the seventh studio album by the British Contemporary R&B/hip-hop combo The Tribe (formerly known as The World Wide Message Tribe), independently released in the UK on Authentic Media in 2003.

As we pointed out last issue, The Tribe’s game is all about changing their stylistic focus with each new intake of kids into the Manchester’s classrooms so few should be surprised that this is pretty different from 2001’s ‘Take Back The Beat’ let alone those pop house anthems that had us careering around the dancefloor in the early ‘90s. Now effectively an R&B cum hip-hop crew, this is a joyfully convincing set of pop raps with three, the infectiously phat «Shake The Floor», the hooky R&B singalong «House Of Love» described by Emma Owens as “one of Quintin’s heart to heart songs” and «The Avenue», one of the most in-your-face expositions of the gospel you’re ever likely to hear, top rate. All in all, a fine album from the band who still retain the amazing ability to re-invent themselves. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, July 2003]
