When the Godhead Speaks

Description

When the Godhead Speaks is an album by the American rock band The Corbans, released on Micah Records in 1999, distributed by Diamante Music Group. The album was produced by Ken Mary for Sonic Fish Productions, with the band and Michael Strub co-producing.

Considering the bushel loads of American Christian pop rock albums that have flooded the Cross Rhythms radio studios that don’t make it onto the playlist, for this one from a band still unknown in the UK to come up with two turntable hits («Give Yourself Away», the choppy rhythmed account of a no-holds-barred witnessing session to a blaspheming acquaintance; and «NYC (I’m Sorry)», a retro ballad about a relationship-gone-bad: “Regret the things I told/ I wish I could show you what my selfish heart denied”), you can be pretty confident this is worth investigating. With some of the tracks recorded in stripped down, minimalist form those won’t be to everybody’s taste, but Wade Myers is an arresting lead singer, at times sounding uncannily like Split Level‘s Adrian Thompson, while the production by Ken Mary is good and crisp. A team of talented Californians with the talent to stand out from the crowd. [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms, August 2000]
