Description
A self-titled “live-in-the-studio” album by the American singer and songwriter Tess Wiley was independently released in 2010.
The latest album from the American-born singer/songwriter is a live studio recording of some of her older songs as well as some new tunes. «Sad Clown» is a great little song with some well observed lyrics and a wistful tune. More upbeat is «Something Sweet And Real», with a beautiful melody and some tasteful guitar accompaniment. The recording is all very raw albeit accomplished. In the main it’s just Tess’s vocal and acoustic guitar with some electric and occasional percussion and piano for colour. All of this is intelligently and cleverly arranged, with additional harmonies that lift the songs. This is an album that makes me yearn to see this talented lady in concert. You can imagine Tess performing this set in a little club or at Greenbelt’s Acoustic Café. Here’s hoping the GB guys read this. [Paul Kerslake, Cross Rhythms, July 2011]
