Risk

Description

Risk is the sophomore album by the American pop/rock band Ten Shekel Shirt fronted by Lamont Hiebert, released on INO Records in 2003, distributed by Word Music Group. Also distributed by Epic. The album was recorded by Russ Fowler at the Power Station in Waterford and Horizon Sound in New Haven, Connecticut; and at The Bennett House and The Hideaway in Franklin, Tennessee; with Brent Milligan producing (except track 7 produced by Monroe Jones and track 8 produced by Lamont Hiebert and Jake Carey). Mixed by Shane D. Wilson. Strings arranged by David Davidson and Milligan.

Sometimes you can tell in the first few moments that something is going to be good. Great melodies and meaningful lyrics, underpinned with jangling guitars and solid rhythm. Forget the band’s name, this is great stuff. Comparisons? They’re helpful maybe – more soothing than REM, more guitar than Coldplay, not as gruff as the Stereophonics, but somewhere in the same musical space as all three. Lyrically their songs are vertically orientated and occasionally straight ahead worship. Their last album ‘Much‘ did well. This is even better. I’ve said all I need to say, but don’t just take my word for it – check it out for yourself. [Jonathan Evans, Cross Rhythms, March 2004]
