Boom Shock is the sophomore studio album by the American contemporary R&B/dance outfit Sonik Boom Of Love (feat. singer, songwriter, and producer Alexander East), released on N*Soul Music in 2000, distributed in the CBA by Diamante Music Group. Also distributed by Navarre Corporation. The album was recorded at Planet East in Minneapolis, Minnesota; with Alexander East producing. All songs written, performed, and conceived by Alexander East.
Second album from talented singer, writer, producer Alexander East who records under the band name Sonik Boom Of Love. Hiding in a Minneapolis studio, he serves up sweet soul vocals, tight harmonies and plenty of grooves, which touch on dance here and there but are mainly R&B focused. Sometimes it reminds me of the soulful end of Terence Trent D’Arby, especially on «Your Love Was Meant For Me» and the absolutely brilliant, soulful «You Know I Would», and this as much for his vocal ideas as his musical statements. Tracks that light my fire include the funk of «Remember» and the clavinet-style groove of «The Departure Of U» as well as the more soulful «Deep In Your System». Solidly spiritual, with R&B beats to punch a hole in your soul and a voice that melts into the music, ‘Boom Shock’ is a potent mix of influences, talent, catchy songs and strong ideas.
