The Best of Sheila Walsh is a compilation album by the British singer Sheila Walsh, released by Integrity Music in March 2004.
Sheila Walsh is just as popular today for her written output and her teaching at women’s conferences as for her music. Here though is a choice selection of her musical creations, culled largely from recordings made over the past six years, with a couple of brand newies to ensure purchase by die-hard fans! Ms Walsh appears to take on various styles and seems remarkably adept at each. First there are the inspirational ballads, which account for most of the tracks on offer here, including her own popular «Always». Then there are a few wispy Celtic-honed tunes, where her delicate vocals are remarkably reminiscent of Maire Brennan. And very occasionally – as on the traditional hymn «A Mighty Fortress» – her formidable vocal prowess is more akin to the classical tones of Lesley Garrett! A number of songs were co-written by the likes of friends Gary Sadler and John Hartley; others come care of Chris Eaton, Michelle Tumes and even Martin Smith. With choral and orchestral accompaniment, it’s a lushly produced set, and, to those rather unfamiliar with the current direction of this well known figure, a perfect introduction.
