Carols, Rhythms, & Grooves is an instrumental Christmas album by the American keyboardist, composer, producer and arranger Richard Souther, self-released by Souther on northerSouth Music in October 1993.

One of the tastiest offerings of the season comes from the private studio of keyboardist/producerwunderkind Richard Souther, who is responsible for every note on this album. And what notes they are. Souther calls this “cinemagraphic” music, in the sense that the music can bring images and ideas to the mind while listening, and we’d have to agree, as his interpretations of the carols, take us around the world musically in less than an hour. Expect the unexpected from gothic to Celtic, European to African, all played and recorded impeccably well (Souther engineered too). The somewhat sad news is that this marvelous collection is available by mail order only. The cost is 10 dollars for a cassette made directly from the DAT master. Souther will accept check or money order only, and 10 percent of the earnings will go to ALS research (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). [Thom Granger, CCM, October 1993]
