Description
Honor and Glory is an album by the American singer and songwriter Ray Boltz, released on Ray Boltz Music/Word in 1998. Also manufactured and distributed by Epic Records, a division of Sony Music. The album was produced by Steve Millikan and Ray Boltz. Tracks and overdubs recorded at Gaither Studios in Alexandria and ZooWest in Atlanta, Indiana.; with Jeff Aebi, Lance Viau, Mark Aspinall, and Steve Millikan engineering. Mixed by Mark Aspinall at Gaither Studios.
On this CD, Ray Boltz takes the theme of God and country and serves up a 49-minute package of inspirational ballads about Christ and American heroism.
The first ear-catcher here is «An Honor to Serve», a song inspired by the words of Vietnam veteran, Jeremiah Denton, Jr, spoken upon returning home after more than seven years imprisonment in a POW camp. In picturesque, adult contemporary style, Boltz helps us relive the power and commitment of Denton’s heroism. Looking beyond Vietnam, Boltz also remembers with honor all of America’s military veterans in the stirring song, «Fallen Not Forgotten».
Those songs notwithstanding, the most thought-provoking and entertaining tune on this album is «Jesus Real Loud». In this, Boltz uses a Paul Simon-esque lyrical delivery and a pop/country background to place himself in an elevator or waiting room and ask the question, “What if I said Jesus real loud?” That, in turn, makes you wonder what would happen if you said it, too.
Although Boltz’ brand of sentimental patriotism can seem overdone at times, in general he’s accomplished what he set out to do, creating an inspirational album that honors both Christ and America. [Mike Nappa, CCM, February 1999]
