Touchstone

Description

Touchstone is a acoustic solo album by the American singer and songwriter Randy Stonehill, independently released by Stonehillian Music in 2005 as a Limited Edition CD (originally released in Australia and New Zealand). The album was recorded and mixed 2005 by Bob Kilpatrick at Fair Oaks Music Studios in Fair Oaks, California; with Randy Stonehill and Kilpatrick producing. The album features acoustic, stripped down re-recordings of various Stonehill classics. Two tracks, “Keep Me Runnin'” and “Love Broke Through”, features Phil Keaggy on acoustic guitar and vocals, respectively.

Not long after completing work on Edge Of The World, my co-producer Bob Kilpatrick and I were discussing ideas for the next recording project. He said, “You know Randy, you’ve made 19 records over some thirty-plus years. There’s a wealth of great songs there, but most of these recordings are out of print. You still perform a wide cross section of material in your concerts and I know your audience would love to hear those songs just the way you wrote them and the way you do them live in concert. Why don’t you just set yourself down in my studio with your guitar and we’ll record a batch of songs and see what we get!”

I realized that it was an idea whose time was actually overdue. I replied “OK, so let’s sift through the catalog of all those songs and pick out some of the signature touchstone material. Then it struck me. Hey, here’s an obvious title to the project: we’ll call it Touchstone. – Randy Stonehill [Album liner notes]
