Description
The Promise is the debut album by the American boy band Plus One, released on Atlantic Records in May 2000.
Band members Gabe Combs, Nate Cole, Jerry Mhire, Jason Perry, and Nathan Walters were all in their late teens or early twenties when selected for the group. The catalyst for Plus One’s creation was manager Mitchell Solarek, who sent out an open audition call through Christian youth ministry channels. Three of the singers chosen were sons of preachers; most had experience performing at churches. After initially considering the name Blue, the fivesome was dubbed Plus One and sent into the studio under the guidance of multi-Grammy-winning producer David Foster. Co-producing and contributing songs to the project were such proven secular hit-makers as Eric Foster White (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys), Rodney Jerkins (Whitney Houston, Brian McKnight), and Robbie Nevil (Jessica Simpson, Brandy). During the album-making process, the band members shared living quarters in San Francisco and, later, Los Angeles. The band’s debut album The Promise was released in early 2000 on Foster’s 143 label, distributed by Atlantic Records.
