Description
Unlimited is an album by the British contemporary R&B group Nu Colours, released in the UK on The Wild Card in 1993. As well manufactured and distributed by PolyGram Records in the US.
Soul/dance music has such a sophisticated, not to mention stylised set of production conventions that there’s always a danger that gospel artists, brought into the big budget, major record company arena lose some part of their stylistic individuality once subjected to the batteries of samplers and drum computers which make up today’s producer’s armoury. Once individuality is lost the hits are hard to find. Both Lavine Hudson and the Escofferys are better vocalists than their crossover-attempt albums would have us believe and it was with some trepidation that I approached Nu Colours debut album for the soul/pop mainstream. I’m delighted to say I enjoyed it though I still wonder if it’s distinctive enough to compete for the platinum album stakes. The singles from it, the cover of «Tears» and that spiritual dance song «Power» are hot, and «Fallin Down» and «Let Freedom Reign» both contain the same soulful intensity that this so talented group deliver on stage.
