…and a Phrase or Two

…and a Phrase or Two is a solo album by the American singer and songwriter Michael Roe of The Seventy Sevens fame, Kickstarter-funded and independently released on Lo-Fidelity Records in June 2014. The album was recorded and mixed by Mark Harmon at The Harm Farm in Loomis, California. Additional recording by Doc Love (aka Michael Roe) at DevonLou in Citrus Heights, California.

A very big thank you to Mark and Bruce for donating their time, studio and amazing playing skills to this project. I want to especially thank each and every one of you who donated your hard earned money to my Kickstarter campaign, particularly those who purchased the ‘Mike’s Singing Jukebox’ reward. For those keeping score, in June of 2013 I had the privilege of launching the “Guadalupe” Kickstarter campaign. Part of my campaign included a reward where you, the fan, could sponsor me to record a song of your choosing. And you did, in rather overwhelming numbers. Over 30 songs were chosen ~~ some were your original compositions, others were covers by various artists that you wanted to hear me sing.

Once the campaign ended, I started recording these songs, getting inside them, and in doing so I began to feel like I was getting closer to who you are not only as fans, but as people. The songs ended up spanning two albums: The 77s album “Gimme A Kickstart” and my solo effort, “…And A Phrase Or Two” represented here. These songs were a joy to reimagine and record, and I’m grateful to the fans for allowing me the opportunity to interpret these songs as my own. ~ Michael Roe.
