Description
New Irish Hymns #2: Father, Son & Holy Spirit is a collaboration project featuring the three vocalists, American singer/songwriter Margaret Becker and the British singers/songwriters Joanne Hogg (of Iona fame) and Kristyn Lennox (aka Kristyn Getty), released on Kingsway Music in August 2003. The album was produced by Keith Getty with Margaret Becker co-producing.
The album is the second release in the four-part New Irish Hymns Series started with New Irish Hymns released in 2001. New Irish Hymns #2: Father, Son & Holy Spirit was followed by New Irish Hymns #3: Incarnation (2004), and a final album entitled New Irish Hymns #4: Hymns for the Life of the Church (2005).
Featuring producer Keith Getty on piano, Tim Oliver on keyboards (and programming), Stephen Leiweke on guitar, Chris Donohue on bass (as well as low whistles and accordion), Ken Lewis on drums and percussion, with Peter Wilson providing background vocals. Strings by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

When I reviewed volume one in CR66 I enthused about the lush string writing, the perfectly integrated Celtic instrumentation and the quality of composer/producer/conductor Keith Getty’s work. This new project brings similar praise and if I miss the haunting tones of Maire (or is that Moya?) Brennan heard so effectively on the first volume, I must confess that America’s Kristyn Lennox is a magnificent replacement. Possibly the impact isn’t quite as stark as it was first time around but this is still quality Celtic music demonstrating a worship heart. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, January 2004]
