Fascinate

Description

Fascinate is the fourth album by the British singer, songwriter, and worship leader Lou Fellingham of Phatfish fame, released in the UK on Integrity Music in 2014 (part of the David C. Cook family). The album was engineered by Nathan Fellingham with Sam Cox producing and arranging.

This collection from Brighton singer/songwriter Lou Fellingham is marked especially by at least two key qualities – a sense of joy in faith and a sweet but powerful voice. The fine voice is in top form and crystal clear on all tracks but is showcased particularly well on the soulful final track «All Hail King Jesus» which starts acapella before being embellished by a subtle musical accompaniment that slowly builds into an impressive prayer song. The sense of joy pervades the album, with «Awaken» being one of the most optimistic and upbeat songs – “I hear the new day calling/ Heaven’s open invitation”. My favourite is «Sacrifice», one of the most reflective songs with a haunting melody, decorated effectively by a gorgeous piano accompaniment and solo and harmony vocals from Jake Isaak. There’s a touching vulnerability about this track – “Broken before You/ Heart laid bare again/ Open before You/ Waiting here.” Finally, «Trinity» is a catchy number that fills a gap as it’s often hard to find a good song that explores the Blessed Trinity. If there’s any improvement to be made it might be that Fellingham’s songwriting could be a tad sharper or more adventurous. The lyrics are fairly standard praise and worship fare, but then I suppose God hardly tires of expressions of love! [Brendan O’Regan, Cross Rhythms, January 2015]
