Love of Heaven

Love of Heaven is the third album by the American singer Lisa Bevill, released on Sparrow Records in 1996. The album was produced by David Pack (tracks: 1, 10), Don Koch (tracks: 4 to 6, 9), and Jimmie Lee Sloas (tracks: 2, 3, 7, 8).

There was a day when the idea that there could be real pop in Christian music was a heavily debated point. Yet as years pass, the talent, the craft and the artistry in Christian music have expanded, and today there exists an abundance of pop music in the Christian arena.

Case in point: Take a listen to Lisa Bevill’s third album, ‘Love of Heaven’. This project contains a wonderful blend of dance tracks built on strong grooves and pop tunes built on melody not to mention all the production bells and whistles. There are ballads that work through one’s mind and into the heart. ‘Love’ contains a great balance of music styles, and Bevill’s capable vocals take on each style to deliver the goods.

While musically the album stands strong, it is the choice of songs that make the real difference. The turbulent years of adolescence need the anchoring of faith, so Bevill works hard to talk about the security that Christ can offer («Love of Heaven») and she encourages her audience to give Jesus a chance («Consider His Love»). Once these other issues are uplifted, Bevill then challenges her listeners to allow Jesus to flow out of their lives and into the lives of those around them («Shining Through» and «If We’re His»). Outstanding advice.

Shining with a highly polished production luster, the album is successful due in no small part to the team of producers who worked with Bevill: Don Koch, Jimmie Lee Sloas and two songs by David Pack (formerly of Ambrosia). While mixing producers often leads to a hodge-podge final product, the team seems to by of similar mindset resulting in a cohesive project.

But again it is Bevill who is at the core. The payoff? With ‘Love of Heaven’ she has created a connection to many groups of people, each one feeling like she is talking directly to them. [Devlin Donaldson, CCM, April 1996]
