By Faith is the sixth album by the American pop singer Kim Boyce, released on Warner Alliance in 1994, a gospel division of Warner Bros Records. The album was produced by Bryan Lenox, except tracks 2, 6, and 10 produced by Bill Cuomo and Robert White Johnson.

Though it might be a strange analogy to some, in some ways, Kim Boyce has been the Madonna of contemporary Christian music. As the first artist developed by a major label in the carefully emerging dance/pop segment of Christian music, Boyce was similarly ground breaking in the mid-’80s to the early work of the Material Girl in the Christian music market. And as the Italian stallionette strove to escape the very image that launched her career, and make more thoughtful music with deeper lyrical concerns, so Miss Boyce has attempted to grow gracefully as an artist and craft albums that now attract an older (or at least more mature) listener, which marry meatier lyrics to a more sophisticated adult contemporary sound.

Like its predecessor, ‘Facts of Love’, Boyce’s new album ‘By Faith’ continues the above-described trend with another collection of tunes that range from the more modern pop of «Tell Me» (which, not to belabor this, sounds a bunch like recent stuff from the big M), to some keyboard-based ballads that sound far too much like too many Christian pop records.

What’s new here is that which is also new in the artist’s own life – the birth of her son, which gave inspiration to a couple of songs that arguably sound more sincere and heartfelt than some of her past work. On ‘Faith’, Kim Boyce has recorded some of her very best singing and songs. Though in an increasingly competitive environment for female Christian pop singers, one wonders if a record like this will get the kind of attention it may deserve.
