Stereotype Be-Sides

Stereotype Be-Sides is an album by the American singer and songwriter Kevin Max of DC Talk fame, independently released by Max in August 2015. The album is a compilation of demos and rare outtakes from the process of creating Kevin Max’s solo debut album Stereotype Be released in 2001, as well as live performances at Frizon festival in Sweden. (Stereotype Be-Sides was officially released August 28, the same day of the album Stereotype Be‘s release 14 years earlier.)

Stereotype Be-Sides is a culmination of demos, sessions and outtakes from the process of creating Kevin Max’s first studio album Stereotype Be. Released in 2001, Stereotype Be was a pioneering/genre game changer for the pop and christian alternative industry. Stereotype Be was produced by Adrian Belew (David Bowie, King Crimson, Talking Heads) and featured musicians Tony Levin, Matt Chamberlin and Larry Norman. Released by EMI it was originally written by Max while he was on Virgin Records in LA. Early record A&R Tony Berg, instructed Max to write over 30 songs in preparation for his first solo release. These demos and studio outtakes were written in majority before the actual Stereotype Be sessions. Max wrote the album with his guitarist and co-writer Erick Cole, but eventually called on Adrian Belew to produce the project. Some of the songs in this collection foreshadow some of the albums that followed, including The Imposter. Kevin Max’s Stereotype Be is still a fan favorite and has garnered a cult following because of its progressive and cryptic qualities.
