Description

Grown is the sophomore album by the American singer and songwriter Kendall Payne, independently released in 2004.

Before the release of this album, Kendall has “grown” through being dropped by her previous record company since the well deserved success of her first album ‘Jordan’s Sister‘. There are more moments of quiet reflection on ‘Grown’ but it also has its fair share of rockier tracks. She’s a rare and individual talent on the CCM scene and I hope that, now she has distribution by Fierce!, future recordings will flow naturally instead of being delayed. I had the privilege of doing the first CR review of ‘Jordan’s Sister’ before it was released on Fierce! and I remain a big fan. Kendal sometimes sounds like Julie Miller, who in turn sounds like Cyndi Lauper but the comparison is only fleeting, as she varies the style of her tracks, all self-written except for a contribution by Jason Wade of the band Lifehouse. The appropriate album title comes from the track «Twenty Three», written when she was that age and there is a hidden piece at the end, recorded in 1989, when she was a young girl.
